123 films were entered for the competition following the call for entries in autumn 2009.
16 films were then selected by a pre-selection jury made up of professionals from the audiovisual field, scientists and non-specialists who met over 4 days in February to choose the films.

No criteria of length or theme were defined beforehand and this choice of diversity is reflected in the rich variety of films selected. This means there are no categories as such.

The following prizes will be awarded:
- Festival “Grand prix”
- Festival Second Prize
- Festival Third Prize
- Jury’s Special Citation
The overall prize money is 11,000 Euros.

The 16 films in the competition will be screened over three days at the “Palais des Congrès” Conference Centre in Nancy.
The film-maker and/or director of each film will attend its screening and time will be set aside so that the audience can discuss the film with them.
